It was cinema here - World of Small Cinemas Over

Warszawa Cinema's Hall

Anybody knows a tiny cinema which no longer plays movies. In our country there are hundreds of such cinemas. As they collapsed a certain epoch, recalled by many people warmly, terminated. Buildings in which these cinemas existed became apartment buildings, stores or they are just going into ruin. An atmosphere of little cinema-rooms, free from smell of popcorn can not be produced in air-conditioned multiplexes. That is why we decided to gather and record in a one place possibly the largest number of information regarding existing and closed traditional cinemas.

The project It was cinema here was commenced on March 2006 and currently it has included more than 400 cinema buildings in Poland. Significant part of pictures can be viewed on www.tubylokino.pl website. Our ambitions and hopes let us believe, that tubylokino.pl in some time will change into place in which people loving cinema meet regularly, also, in this the most literal way. Anybody can upload pictures of cinemas from his / her collection.

Several photos are published in album of the same title. Apart from pictures, the book shall contain memories by famous people (stories of cinemas from past are told, among others, by Edward Dwurnik, Wilhelm Sasnal, Tadeusz Sobolewski, Janusz Gajos, Daniel Olbrychski, Piotr Łazarkiewicz, Małgorzata Szumowska, Andrzej Mleczko).
