Craig Potton is a photographer and environmental activist. He graduated from the faculties of Eastern Religions and English Literature. He lives in his hometown Nelson, New Zealand, where he has a company, Craig Potton Publishing, which publishes albums and books about the natural environment of New Zealand. Lately, he worked at the filming of the trilogy Lord of the Ring, as well as other films: Piotruś Pan, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and King Kong, for which he made shots of nature. He has presented his photos in New Zealand, the United States and Australia. The exposition on the Marquet Square, in the Arsenal, and in Helios cinema came to Wrocław from Luksfera Gallery in Warsaw. It will accompany this year's presentation of New Zealand cinema. Nature photographed by Craig Potton makes his work part of this trend of art, which respects the classical ideal of beauty. The heavenly beauty of the landscape evokes longings for the mythical paradise lost. Photographic images bring the reality of Nature to the sphere of aesthetics, which has so far belonged exclusively to art, and culture. Although the artist uses his photos in his struggle for the protection of New Zealand's nature, untouched by civilisation, the term truth is useless in assessing his output. Agnieszka Szeffel |
