Panorama of Contemporary Cinema: Masters, Discoveries is a selection of films which won awards at the most important international film festivals. The Panorama is divided into two parts. In the part Masters we show films made by recognised artists – the festival audience has thus an opportunity to follow the latest achievements of such distinguished directors as Pedro Almodovar, François Ozon, Lars von Trier, Peter Greenaway, Emir Kusturica, Alexander Sokurov, Ken Loach, Mohsen Makhmalbaf, Otar Iosseliani, Hou Hsiao-hsien and many others. Discoveries in turn help the audience admire new talents, events of the season and congenial debuts, which electrified the international public.

 

Among the masters we will show numerous and various films, including: The Song of Sparrows - Avaze gonjeshk – ha) directed by the Iranian master, Majid Majidi; the French Secret of the Grain (La graine et le mulet)– winner of several César awards (including best film), the latest work by Abdellatif Kechiche, author of Blame It on Voltaire, well-known to Polish audiences, and the latest piece from the French master, New Wave precursor, Eric Rohmer - Les amours d'Astrée et de Celadon.

 

As usual this section will also include another important element: special screenings, showing the most interesting phenomena of the season, both of international film events and national production.

 

For the second time, just like last year, screenings at the Market Square will make an important part of the festival. They allow not only the festival participants but also inhabitants of Wrocław to experience the film art in the picturesque city centre.
